Everything around the reef is in the process of breeding. Only a week ago we had the coral doing its annual night spawning, and during recent dives I have seen many creatures exhibiting spawning or egg laying behaviour. Reef Cuttlefish (Sepia latimanus) are being seen in larger numbers as they come into the reef to [...]

This weeks Photo of the week (POTW) is a video of an old Loggerhead Turtle (Caretta Caretta) swimming on Agincourt Reef, Great Barrier Reef. A groups of us were diving along the reef last week. The visability was fairly poor, and we had very few photos or video to show for our day. Suddenly a [...]

I use the Canon Powershot G series a lot for underwater work, and find them very useful when travelling due to their small size, so dropped into the local camera store yesterday to pick up the new Canon Powershot G12 camera. Looking through the manual last night, there a six new features that I thought [...]

Finally managed to get some underwater video of Anemone Shrimp (Periclimenes Holthuisi). There are a reasonable number of anemones at the local reefs that host shrimp, but diving with groups often makes it difficult to stop and find them. The visibility was a little low the other day when diving at Agincourt Reef with Quicksilver’s [...]

Photographed a couple of Malabar Cod (Epinephelus malabaricus), also referred to as Malabar Grouper, during a recent dive at Agincourt Reef with Quicksilver’s Silversonic . These cod are really friendly, and popular with the visitors. Normally once the divers get down and play with the fish, the visibility decreases as the sand is stirred up. [...]

Went for a dive on Wednesday on Quicksilver’s Silversonic to Agincourt Reef, Great Barrier Reef. I was listening to some podcasts and contemplating the previous year and the year ahead. Came across this video on Scott Kelbys blog by Atlanta music photographer Zack Arias, and even though it was posted in February 2009, it is quite profound in what it has to say heading into 2010.
